In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
I think this poem is very sweet and it makes me think of the victims that died by defending our country. It makes me feel sad for everyone who didn't make it back but grateful that they defended our country. I did like it very much.
Hi there Talia,
ReplyDeleteJade F here from the Summer Learning Journey team.
That was a lovely response you've written about Flanders Field. It made me feel sad as well because of the loss of lives during the war. I really liked that you mentioned that it made you feel grateful about the soldiers who defended our country as well, I feel grateful from the soldiers too.
What was your favourite sentence from the poem? Mine was "Loved and were loved, and now we lie, in Flanders fields." because it really embodied the reality that these soldiers loved their country and were loved by their friends and family but lost their loves fighting to defend their country. I thought that was a very powerful part of the poem.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon and keep up the amazing blog posts!
All the best,
Jade F :)
