The Bone Tiki - Week 5

This past week we have been doing more work on 'The Bone Tiki. I decided to restart the book as we had a new set of activity's that went right back to chapter one an I hadn't been paying much attention the first time. There are a set of activity's per chapter and you have a week or so to complete them. Then we have a discussion group in our reading groups to talk about what we have just read.

Reading DLO

This week we have been working on a book which is not too bad. I like it so far but its not too easy or hard to read which is good. I think its the kind of book that will get better as we read more but so far I think its good.

In the dark spaces- Reading Tasks- Rating

Rating

Out of 10 I would give this book a 6 out of 10.  Made a number line as part of this task so I could show were on the scale it was.

Reason

The reason for this rating is because i'm still struggling to understand what is really happening in the book or what its about. Another reason for this is the stuff that I do understand just doesn't appeal to me I wouldn't choose to read this again but I don't hate the book.

Comparing
Compared to other texts I've read I like this more than some less than others. I do however like reading this more than reading school journals because they are just too easy.

Conclusion

In conclusion I don't really mind this book but I don't love it either. I would how ever recommend it to someone who loves mystery I haven't read the whole thing yet so i'm still hopeful it will get better.

Praise For In The Dark Spaces.- Reading Tasks

This is a book that we are reading in my literacy class about some kids being smuggled on a ship or plane and them trying not to get caught these are some of the reading tasks I have done so far...

If the answer is...

Gub - Is the main characters little brother.

Lazella - Is the aunt of both kids. Also the woman who smuggled them on the plane.

Mc Veigh - Is the man whom is trying to catch the girl who was not meant to be on the plane.

Coffin sized cabin - Is where they girl and her brother have to sleep surrounded by frozen veges.

5 Questions I'd like to ask the author.

  • Has anything like this ever happend to you/someone you knew or is this just your imagination?
  • Why have you decided to leave your readers thinking about where this is being placed until at least chapter six?
  • What inspired you to write this type of book?
  • Did you know anyone with the names you have in this book and/or did they have a special meaning or was it just a name you thought of?
  • Finally what was the hardest part in the process of publishing your book?

Praise For In The Dark Spaces.- Reading Tasks

This week my group has been reading a book called 'Praise For In The Dark Spaces'.

My first thoughts:
This book is very strange and the story line is very hard to pick up as the language they use is more slang that proper words and also the writer hasn't made it very clear what they are trying to say. I don't like this book much at all and I wouldn't read it again if given the choice.

Why don't I like this book?
I don't like this book because it is very hard to follow and its very hard to understand what is happening and one of the reasons I can't is because it was photo copied so I can never figure out what page to read first because it was cut off at the bottom so I can't see the page numbers.

What do I think this book is about?
I think this book is about a girl, her brother and their aunty and their aunty smuggled them on a boat and they have to sleep in a cabin that is just bigger than a coffin. When someone maybe security from Istanbul and he knows they are there but can't catch them but the aunty is on the boat somewhere else where she is allowed. But I don't know if this is correct because I don't understand it all that well.

What could make this easier to read?

  • Having the numbers of each page on the bottom so I know what order I need to read it in.
  • Having a conclusion from someone else who has already read it and see what they thought.
  • Getting together in with the group of people who are also reading it to find out if they understand it or not.

Reading tasks- Wildboy

This is my finished reading work for this week. It was a really interesting book and I hope one day I can find the book he wrote himself.

This was quite easy for me to do, but it was actually really fun. His story was very interesting and really just amazing.

This week for reading I have been working on climate change and I have found out some really interesting things. This was a fun task but hard because I didn't understand parts of it.
