Intro- Close up, Spaceman, Jumps into the shot, slo mo shot to give us the feeling we are in space,
Intro symbol of the astronaut helmet, covers his face, represents the barrier August puts between himself and the world. Auggie loves science.
Music- starts quiet. Violin type music, suddenly changes to upbeat, no words in the song but someone was talking over a radio to make it sound like they were talking to someone in space from earth/ We hear a radio of ground control talking to an astronaut.. Quite, slow but the tempo & dynamics increase to build energy in the scene.
Next is a tracking shot as we move away from the figure. It is now a boy in a helmet and he is jumping on the bed. When we are close up we are in his world when we move away we see it in reality.
Voice over- First voice over is august talking about him and what he likes telling us about his life. He is an ordinary kid but he doesn't look at it.
Point of view shot- Auggie watching his parents argue about him going to school.
" It's like leading a lamb to the slaughter" The dad (nate) said this.
2 mins in and we still haven't seen his face- they are building suspense.
making it known/ given hints that he has never been to a real school before.

August met Mr. Tushman and he told him about what will happen this year. He just met some students and isn't too sure about it. The kids are Charlotte, Julian and jack-will/Jack.
Charlotte- works in t.v commercials and talks a lot about all of the jobs she has gotten.
over the shoulder shot happens,
Julian makes the first mean comment about Charlotte then asks August if he eats normal or special food but he says it in a way we know he's mean and his character is not to be liked.
High angle- of science room.
Augies body language- Looks vulnerable.
Julian is being condescending. then asks "what's the deal with your face"
AUggie corrects julian because he has had enough of julian already.
Auggie walking into school on the first day- Anxious, whole family is there, Via (auggies sister is looking left out)
Auggie's face is covered by his space helmet and then dad takes him away to talk him out of it
close up. he walks off then runs back for a hug then walks to class, on his way... auggies point of view. looking down to the ground then we see what he wants to be happening so he is space man in his dream world the flash back to reality , he's in class and the teacher is there he finds his seat and jack sits next to him, he looks at his shoes, the teacher is talking about precepts and the deeper meaning of them, now everyone has to say two things about themselves, teacher starts and talks about him the julian and he acts nice even though hes not, he talks about video games and his ping pong table the asks auggie to have a go at it he says, " hi my names august pullman "auggie" I have a sister named via and a dog named daisy and I love start wars, and I just said three things'' We also find out here about how he loves start wars which alongside space they are both mentioned a lot in the movie, They call him darth sideous, there are some references to characters.
A symbol of auggie wanting people to treat hum normally- a safe place. in the star wars universe there are lots of weird looking people so no one stares at them,
seen- auggie introduces himself, padawan braid.

High angle shot- To make us know auggie feels sad and lonely, then changes to birdseye.
He walks into Vias room and doesn't say anything via asks what is wrong and then he cuts off his padawan tail.
They sit at the dinner table and his mum asks about his day but he only says it was good.
Halloween scene : 42:56
Auggie is looking for a new costume he can use for halloween and doesn't get what he wants, then the mum and Via decide to spend halloween together.
Auggie is at school and now it's halloween and he's over the top kind of happy as he doesn't have to show his face and people are high fiving and talking to him, then he gets to class to see jack talking to julian and his friends about him. They are saying lots of things like i would kill myself if i looked like him. This shot is focused on auggie
body language- deliberate change of body language, head up high and walking confidently. he is also interacting with others a lot more than before
Music- Happy/ upbeat- monster mash, fast tempo, lots of energy, it all of a sudden changed to having no lyrics and a sad minor key that makes it known that he's unhappy,
When he hears jack saying " If I looked like him I would kill myself"- Music tempo gets slow, quiet dynamics to make us focus, use of diagetic sound- kids laughing.
Why is this scene important?
I think it's important because it shows how august love halloween and it has been a pretty bad one and it's hardly begun. I think it was also there to show that he thought he had made a friend and he turned out to be like everyone else which would show its importance, as Jack has been manipulated by jullian into betraying auggie.

Significant- We see Auggie lose faith in the idea of friendship- if Jack can be that mean behind his back how can he trust others.

Jacks fight scene: Jack realises why Auggies mad at him, Then they are given a task to do a science project with their table mate and jacks staying with auggie rather than going with julien then julian makes fun of auggie, Jack gets so wound up that he punches julian and they get into a fight in the school halls, jack is using a voiceover to read out the letter he wrote for the principal and what the principal said back jack said he's sorry for what happens and understands if he needs to be expelled, the principal has said he feels no need for that as long as that's the only time it happens . We start at mid shot then go to eye angle and it moves to low angle to show the fight and to make the fight look more vicious than it actually is.. Then it moves to a dutch tilt it is low and makes jack look more aggressive.
Music- minor, slow tempo and quiet dynamics- creates focus and intensity. Sounds are diegetic.
Shot in slowmo so we see the event more clearly.
Significant- Shows the theme of popularity/ acceptance. Jack has learnt from his mistake and is standing up for his friend.
Camp- They're all sitting down to watch the wizard of oz, jack and auggie go outside- jacks idea, high angle. Some older kids come over and make fun of auggie and jack gets pushed so auggie tries to stand up for jack and they both end up on the floor then some of the other kids from camp/school help and punch the older kids and everyone gets away and find themselves at the lake, Auggie gets emotional and they all comfort him, - he is emotional because he finally made friends

What shots do we see.- eye level- while they are in the forest before the fight and they are being picked on- when the auggie and jack stand up for themselves it becomes a low shot, then while they are fighting it goes between high angle- to make them feel weak and vulnerable. eye level to low to medium and dutch tilt shots.
