  2. Beaufort wind scale:

Anemometer

MATERIALS

  1.  STICKS X TWO
  2. CELLOTAPE
  3. PENCIL
  4. GLASS CUPS X FOUR
  5.  PIN
  6. STICKY NOTE

Steps

  1.   Tape the sticks to the cups
  2. Tape sticks together to make a cross
  3. Pin the cross to the rubber on the pencil
  4.
  5.
  6.

Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

CONCLUSION:

On the field there were 80 spins per hour and the wind speed was 13-20 km/hr.
At the old jblock site there were 60 spins per minute and the wind speed was 12-14 km/hr.
At the grass hill there were 40 spins per minute and the wind speed was 6-12 km/hr.
At the tennis court gate there were 12 spins per minute and the wind speed was 2-5 km/hr.

Defintions- Science

Today in science we have watched  a video of different weather patterns and disasters that have happened around the world and have been caught on camera. We then had to find and write the definition for the words below and have a good understanding of what they mean.
  1. Anemometer -  A tool used for wind measuring purposes.
  2. Beaufort wind scale - Used for measuring wind speeds at sea.
  3. Typhoon - Tropical storm, With wind faster than 74 miles per hour. ( Tropical cyclone)
  4. Monsoon - Wind that carry's heavy rain. Seasonal change in direction.
  5. What is it called when the weather is really nice and it suddenly turns into hail?        Air pressure. (barometric pressure)       Climate change
