Science - Filter paper

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Materials:
  1. Filter paper
  2. Water based felt pens.
  3. Plastic cup
  4. Water

Steps:
  1. Come and collect your sheet of filter paper.
  2. Then we had to measure a line 1 cm from the bottom of the paper.
  3. Then make two different colored dots on the line and get the teacher to add a very little amount of water.
  4. Then wait and see what happens to the dots.

Conclusion:

We found out that the colours mixed together and slowly rose to the top of the paper. We also found out that the blue felt pen moved faster than the purple as you can see in the picture the blue has moved above the purple even though they were put into the water at the exact same time.
